Where it begins
Jim Bowes meets Netherlands green guru Eckart Wintzen, who tells him “I will take you seriously the day you create marketing materials without using paper or ink”. The challenge is on. Jim wakes at 3 am, thinking “What if we placed a template on the ground and tried to clean a message out of the dirt? The idea is born.

Going it alone
Telfort commissions the first campaign. Marketing Tribune takes notice, as do local newspapers. Jim tells whoever cares to listen that he’s come up with a great innovation, only to find that the technique has been used by street artists for decades. Never mind. It’s not who gets there first, it’s who can make it work commercially. GreenGraffiti® is registered as a standalone business.

Had it not been for the vision and daring of Telfort,
GreenGraffiti® would not be here today.

Bigger and better
We move into own offices on the Westerstraat, Amsterdam. After appearing on national television, we get calls from around 100 interested parties. In conjunction with The Value Agency, we develop the GreenAdsBlue concept, to help compensate for our water footprint. Mike Jansen in Canada becomes our first licensee partner, with 9 others following soon after. Our campaign for Dominos makes Fox News, and is recognised by our client as their second most successful outdoor promotion, with 29 million internet impressions. We strengthen the team and Joost Niepoth joins as Managing Partner.

Spreading the word
We sign our 16th licensee partner. The Biodiversity campaign, for the European Union through Ogilvy Belgium, becomes our first international campaign, running in 6 countries. It receives massive exposure through an article in the New York Times. We undertake work for substantial brands like Sony, Hi, ING, KPN, Starbucks, Renault and many others. GreenAdsBlue is established as an official not-for-profit water foundation, teaming up with Akvo.org. We move into larger offices in Amsterdam.
European Union uses GreenGraffiti®
